KING CHARLES III CORONATION MAY BANK HOLIDAY CARAVAN PARK AND CAMPSITE

With a third May Bank Holiday announced for 2023 for King Charles III's coronation, it's going to be a great Spring in Somerset! The key dates for your diary are 5 - 8 May 2023.

Our five star touring and camping park is the only 5* caravan site in South Somerset with our top quality facilities. If you'd like to live like a royal for the weekend and not lift a finger, we'd recommend booking one of our fully serviced touring pitches, which are all hardstandings with 16 amp electric hook-up included in your pitch fee; a water standpipe and waste water drain.

Much like the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday of 2022, we are expecting a range of events to be held across Somerset and nearby Dorset and will be decorating around the park to get you in the party spirit.

With the Early May Bank Holiday the week before, you may wish to make the most of your extra days off and book in for a longer stay. Our up to date availability is all live on our online booking system with no extra charges for booking online.

TOP TIP FOR MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR MAY BANK HOLIDAYS 2023!

At present, we have pitches available to span the first two May Bank Holiday weekends for 2023. If you would like to join us, our most up to date availability is on our online booking system.

CAMPING AND CARAVANNING

With the bonus May Bank Holiday announced for 5 to 8 May 2023, we're delighted to be treated to a third Monday of holiday to celebrate the King's coronation.

We have pitches available for RVs, Fifth Wheels, motorhomes, caravans, campervans and tents as well as holiday lodges for hire for an adult only break in Somerset.

With the Early May Bank Holiday the weekend before, why not take a longer holiday and enjoy the two extra days off work. We've got pitches available from 28 April through to the end of the Coronation Bank Holiday.

THE BEST CARAVAN PARK IN THE SOUTH WEST!

Best caravan park South West

We have been awarded the Gold Award for Camping and Caravanning Park of the Year 2023 in the South West Tourism

Awards!

We have received excellent feedback from the visiting judges, who commended us on areas including our "commitment to providing the best possible welcome for all of their guests. Their passion for making facilities accessible is clearly evident as is their desire to be as eco-friendly as possible." A second judge added: "Very impressive. It's not surprising that this park has achieved such success in a variety of awards. I was left with no hesitation in seeing that this is a high quality holiday park that takes pride in offering an excellent experience on a consistent basis."

ESCAPE TO YOUR COUNTRY LODGE RETREAT

Enjoy a weekend in the style of the royals and retreat to your own private country holiday lodge in Somerset. Our lodges are available for hire all year round and make a fantastic base to visit the West Country.

With comfortable beds and your own private bathroom, they also make an ideal retreat for split groups, where some wish to stay in their own touring units or camp and others require luxury accommodation to be provided on site.

Our holiday lodge availability is live on our online booking system for the Coronation May Bank Holiday weekend.

AWARD-WINNING HOLIDAYS IN SOMERSET

Long Hazel Park has won three Gold Awards in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards 2022/23. We were judged as the top Camping and Caravanning Park; best Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Business and crowned "Winner of Winners" for the year. This is the second time we've been awarded the top site in Bristol, Bath and Somerset, with our previous win in 2020/21.

HAVE A FRESH BREAKFAST DELIVERED

We work with our local bakery, The Bakery at West Camel, to offer fresh deliveries five days a week on site. The Bakery is well known in Somerset for providing baked goods to the best farm shops and restaurants locally.

Rumour has it, King Charles III is a big fan of a freshly baked loaf of bread for breakfast, which is fortunate as The Bakery at West Camel has a great array on their menu. We'll send out the menu with your welcome pack before arrival!

For a more substantial brunch during your holiday, we would recommend visiting The Old Parlour farm shop and cafe, which is just a mile away and dog-friendly.

VISIT KING ARTHUR'S CAMELOT

Whilst celebrating King Charles III's coronation, we would highly recommend a visit to Camelot hillfort situated at South Cadbury. The Bronze and Iron Age hillfort is thought to be the most likely stronghold of famous Celtic King Arthur.

With remains dating from 3500 BC having been found at the 7 hectare hillfort, there are also remains of an 11th Century Saxon mint and foundations of a castle including a "Great Hall". At 500 ft high, the hillfort is the same height as Glastonbury Tor and offers 360º views across Somerset and Dorset. The hillfort is just two miles from our caravan park and is a wonderful dog walk too.

CARBON-NEUTRAL GOALS

A cause close to King Charles III's heart is undoubtedly nature and an emphasis on carbon reduction. In 2022, Long Hazel Park earned four awards in the David Bellamy Pledge for Nature, including creating wildlife habitats and planting of further trees on our caravan park.

As part of our pledge, we calculated we have 1502 trees on site, absorbing over 33T of CO2 emissions per year. This absorbs all of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions as a business and a good chunk of our customers' emissions during visits to Somerset too.

Without doubt, our crowning glory on site is our 400 year old oak tree, which is one of the few remaining old oaks which once covered Sparkford.

VISIT RNAS YEOVILTON

Visit RNAS Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum during your stay. The Royal Navy air base features a collection of four halls containing historical and modern helicopters and planes from the beginning of flight. There is also a working British-built  Concorde displayed as part of the collection.

In the 1970s, HRH Prince Charles learnt to fly a helicopter at Yeovilton as part of his training before joining the Navy.

YEOVIL HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL

Visit Somerset's first ever hot air balloon festival on the weekend of the King's coronation. Held in Yeovil at Yeovil Showground, the balloon festival will run from 5th to 7th May 2023.

With a fairground, markets and live music during the day, there will also be a night glow show of the hot air balloons. The bus from Sparkford High Street will take you to Yeovil town, with adjoining buses taking you to the showground.

BY ROYAL APPOINTMENT

Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Somerset in 2012 during her Diamond Jubilee tour included trips to Yeovil, Sherborne and Crewkerne. A further visit in 2019 in her Platinum Jubilee year saw Castle Cary, Bruton and Ditcheat welcome the Queen.

The Queen notably visited Hauser & Wirth Somerset at Bruton, which is home to one of the UK's best international art collections and has previously featured exhibitions from Turner Prize winner Martin Creed and British sculpter Henry Moore. With free entry to the gallery and housing gardens by famed garden designer Piet Oudolf, this is a must-see during your stay.
